Through my years of practice, I’ve been passionate about working with thousands of clients in promoting good mental health by helping them to unravel their cycles of negative thoughts, negative emotions, and negative behaviors that interchangeably obstruct them from being who, and getting to, where they want to be in life.
I strive to assist my clients in achieving their optimal mental health by utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy combined with humanistic psychology to promote balance in all areas of their lives from a holistic perspective. What is this holistic therapy modality? We’ll take a deep look into family, friendships, romantic relationships, occupation/academics, sleep, diet & exercise, the amount of fun you’re having in life, your relationship with yourself, and your spirituality (as it pertains to you). If any of these stick out to you, write them down now! Once we accurately pinpoint the deficits in your life, we’ll bridge the deficit to the manifesting emotions leading to your mental health issues. After we identify your triggers, I’ll equip you with the tools necessary to not only overcome your current problem but to implement the necessary changes that last a lifetime. My goal is not to make you dependent on me but rather to make you an expert in your thoughts and behaviors. You become the expert!
While working with me, you can always expect a safe and non-judgmental space where you can talk freely about your thoughts and feelings so that we can truly address your core issues to evoke real growth and lasting change. If you’re reading this, then you know that you’re ready! My ideal client is tired of repeating maladaptive behavioral and thought patterns and has finally decided to end their suffering by putting themselves first. Clients appreciate my empathetic nature, complemented by my candor and direct approach to counseling.

I graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor’s in Psychology. During my undergraduate studies at FSU, I interned for the front-running pioneer of anxiety research, Dr. Jesse Cougle, at his lab on anxiety disorders. I also got my first taste of clinical application as one of the youngest crisis counselors in the nation at 2-1-1 Big Bend, a crisis counseling hotline and community referral service. After graduation, I continued my education at the University of South Florida, earning a Master’s Degree in Mental Health and Rehabilitation Counseling. I’m currently licensed as a Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida, where I’ve presented at regional and national conferences on the topics of performance-based anxiety, holistic anxiety treatment, mindfulness-based anxiety treatment, and workplace-related stress and burnout. I’m a current professional member of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America and an active volunteer Guardian ad Litem (GAL) with the 6th Judicial Circuit here in Pinellas County, where I advocate for the best interests of Florida’s abused, abandoned, and neglected children.
Outside of academia, I was a personal trainer and general manager of a gym throughout graduate school. I thoroughly enjoyed helping people achieve optimal physical conditioning because I saw the direct link it had to their mental health. I am a huge advocate for the mind-body connection, especially in a society where we’ve become more sedentary than ever in human evolution. In working with me, we will be diving deep into your physical health, diet, sleep, and exercise routine.
As a clinician, I have a unique set of clinical skills and expertise with an emphasis on utilizing holistic psychology in conjunction with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy when counseling both adolescents and adults. I’m most passionate about treating anxiety in my clients because I suffered from anxiety as a teen and a young adult. I was completely blindsided by this crippling mental health disorder that rocked me at my core. My anxiety led to insomnia, social anxiety, and a heightened sense of self-awareness that wreaked havoc on every facet of my personal life. I was put on medication that made me feel like a zombie, so I discontinued taking it almost immediately. I reached out to a psychotherapist, and it was the best decision I ever made. Through psycho-education, cognitive behavioral therapy, some serious personal work, along with significant lifestyle changes, I took back control of my life. So much so that I decided to dedicate the rest of my life to helping others who struggle with anxiety and other mental health issues.
I’m living proof that you can overcome these awful disorders. I pledge as the founder of this counseling center that I, along with the fantastic counselors of this practice, are all constantly striving for excellence and are always researching cutting-edge neuroscience and therapy modalities to better help you overcome whatever it is that you’re struggling with. We hold ourselves to the highest standards because we understand the importance of mental health. I’m no longer accepting new clients, but Bjorn Nagle sees clients in my place. He’s a fantastic clinician with years of experience helping clients who are struggling with the same issues as the clients I treat. Everyone who I’ve sent to him has had only positive things to say. I guarantee that he’s THE go-to male therapist in St. Petersburg, and I’m highly confident that you’ll receive the same level of care that you’ve come to expect of me and my reputation.
Outside of being a counselor, I have my flaws. I struggle with certain issues, I’m nowhere near perfect, and I’m writing all this because I want you to understand that I’m a human too. With that being said, I thoroughly enjoy life, and I love what I do. To prove I’m not a robot counselor, here are some fun facts about me:
- I’m a #girldad to Palmer Jane McNulty, who joined our family on July 13th, 2022. She’s been the most fantastic experience of my entire life, and I become more in love with her every day. My wife Elizabeth and I have 2 Cavapoos and a Great Pyrenees mix. I love animals, and I think if everyone had a pet, people would be that much happier, and the world would be a better place. I think we can learn a lot from our furry friends about enjoying the simplicities in life. I’ll shamefully admit that I’m incredibly jealous of their contentment and excitability for life. I sometimes daydream of a world where people act like animals. Not the butt-sniffing or pooping outside in public part, but more along the lines of people getting excited to see each other, connect, and become mindfully present.
- I’m fanatical about traveling abroad and tasting my way through the world. Whenever I have the opportunity to travel, I take it. I think it’s the best remedy for the human soul, especially when the routine gets to be a bit too much. It offers the most powerful natural perceptual shift that turns my world upside down. Meeting people from different places and hearing about their culture, how they were brought up, and listening to how they think, their music, their food, etc., is by far my favorite thing to do in life. Something we’re missing in American culture is the ability to approach strangers and welcome them as if they’ve been lifelong friends. I always get this when traveling abroad, and I can implement my favorite parts that I’ve learned into my life in St. Petersburg. My wife and I moved to Spain for a year, where we taught English to Spanish-speaking students in Madrid. Here are a few other places I’ve been: England, Italy, Germany, France, Iceland, Spain, Thailand, Morocco, Ireland, Amsterdam, Switzerland, Sweden, Italy, Belize, Costa Rica, Bonaire, and more.
- “If we couldn’t laugh, we would all go insane.” I love comedy, and I think a life without comedic relief is not worth living. I’m a BIG fan of Saturday Night Live, not the new stuff but the classics with Chis Farley, David Spade, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, and the list goes on! My favorite skit has to be Will Ferrell’s More Cowbell or Chris Farley’s Chippendales Audition/A Van Down By The River skits. Now that I think about it, there’s no way I could decide. I love them all!
- I’m a massive Liverpool Football Club supporter, and I recently attended their game, where they won the most prestigious tournament in all of Europe, The Champion’s League. It was insane. I’ve never experienced fans or people so passionate about any one thing in life, including things outside of football. My favorite part was the unity you felt wearing the same jersey as the other fans because no one cared about what you looked like, whether you were rich or poor, your skin color, or ANYTHING. All that matters on game days is you’re all supporters of one club and one club only, and everyone is the same, so people treat you as such. I envision this is how life was pre-cell phones and social media. I recommend attending an English “football” match to experience genuine human connection.
- I’m highly active, and I love to exercise/be outdoors. Not so much the part where I have to train, but I love competing. I play soccer two nights a week on a team, I’m a member of the St. Pete Cycling Club, and I take any opportunity to get outside and play sports. I’m obsessed with skiing and snowboarding (I was probably born in the wrong state), but I try and get out to the mountains as much as I can. I love hiking, camping, fishing, paddle boards, mountain biking, and other high-adrenaline sports. As I mentioned, I’m a big proponent of taking care of your body because I know if I’m eating right and exercising mentally, I feel great!
